Egypt reports 1,218 new coronavirus cases, 88 deaths

CAIRO, 18 June 2020: Egypt recorded Thursday, 1,218 new coronavirus cases and 88 death raising the death toll to 1,938.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed explained in his daily briefing that the total coronavirus cases in Egypt has reached 50,437.

As many as 387 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 13,528 so far, the spokesman said.

Also, the number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and had received negative results has reached 14,966, he added.

On Wednesday, death toll among doctors due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has reached 73 doctors according to Egyptian Medical Syndicate member Ibrahim al-Zayat.

He added in statements that the number of infections among doctors with the coronavirus, exceeded 430, while the number of deaths reached 73 doctors, indicating that the death rate between medical teams ranges between 5 to 7 percent.

He noted that the past two days have seen an increase in the number of deaths among doctors, as about 20 deaths were recorded, within 48 hours.
