MATROUH, Egypt, June 18 (NENA) - Egyptian returnees who were held captive by militias in the Libyan city of Tarhouna thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his efforts to swiftly end this crisis and bring them home.

The 23 Egyptians chanted "long live Egypt" and held the Egyptian flag on their shoulders as wired by some Egyptian satellite channels.

One of the returnees said "we were afraid that we will never come back to Egypt again, but thanks to President Sisi we returned."

The Egyptians arrived early Thursday to the Salloum crossing on the Egyptian-Libyan borders after the Egyptian bodies managed under directives of President Sisi to free them and bring them back home.

Matrouh Governor Khaled shoeib received the 23 Egyptians upon arrival.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has ordered state bodies concerned to liberate the Egyptians after a video showed 23 Egyptian workers being held captive by militias.

Egypt managed to liberate its nationals in less than 72 hours of circulating the video on some channels and social media.
