CAIRO, 17 June 2020: Death toll among doctors due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has reached 73 doctors according to Egyptian Medical Syndicate member Ibrahim al-Zayat.

He added in statements that the number of infections among doctors with the coronavirus, exceeded 430, while the number of deaths reached 73 doctors, indicating that the death rate between medical teams ranges between 5 to 7 percent.

He noted that the past two days have seen an increase in the number of deaths among doctors, as about 20 deaths were recorded, within 48 hours.

On June 16, Egypt recorded 1567 new coronavirus, cases, raising the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in Egypt to 47856.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said in the daily briefing that 94 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 1766.

As many as 401 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 12730 so far, the spokesman said.

The number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and received negative results has reached 14144, he added.
