Sisi asserts importance of cooperation between African countries to confront COVID-19

CAIRO – 11 June 2020: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi affirmed, Thursday, that confronting the novel Coronavirus, (COVID-19) demands close and continues cooperation between all African countries, and continuing to urge the international financial institutions to provide economic support to African countries.

During his participation in a video conference with a number of African leaders, including members of the African Union Bureau, headed by President of South Africa and African Union, Cyril Ramaphosa, President Sisi stressed the need to continue supporting African medical teams to combat the spread of the Coronavirus, and to work to provide the continent's needs for medical supplies and equipment.

Sisi added that facing the repercussions of the spread of the Corona epidemic should be carried out in parallel with the rest of the efforts to combat the various risks that threaten the security and stability of African countries, especially terrorism, and extremism.

Sisi also noted to the importance of paying attention to the African Development Agenda 2063, which includes, confronting hunger, achieving food security and the development of continental infrastructure projects.

Presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady said in statement, Thursday, that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi participated in a video conference with a number of African leaders including members of the African Union Bureau, headed by President of South Africa and African Union, Cyril Ramaphosa.

Rady noted that the conference shed light on the results of previous summits on the repercussions of the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic to African countries along with discussing ways to deal with this crisis now and in the future.
