Citizens advised to stay away from direct sunlight as hot weather hits Egypt

CAIRO – 11 June 2020: Temperature degrees will rise as of Wednesday across Egypt, with expectations that the hot wave will last until the end of this week.

Dr. Iman Shaker, undersecretary of the remote sensing agency at the Meteorological Authority, called on citizens to stay away from direct sunlight and cover their heads while outside to avoid sun strokes.

She also advised them to drink reasonable amounts of liquids, avoid sitting in poorly-ventilated places, and to wear cotton clothes.

The temperature will be 2-3 degrees higher than normal, according to Shaker.

She further added that the temperatures are expected to record highs of 38 and 39 by the end of the week.

For Wednesday’s temperatures:

Cairo will record highs of 36°C and lows of 21°C

Alexandria will record highs of 31 °C and lows of 22 °C

Marsa Matrouh will record highs of 25 °C and lows of 20 °C

Sohag will record highs of 40 °C and lows of 24 °C

Aswan will record highs of 42 °C and lows of 29 °C
