CAIRO - 31 May 2020: On Sunday, Transport Minister Kamel el Wazer inspected the renovation and maintenance work being carried out at the ring road, which encircles the Greater Cairo metropolitan area.

The tour included following up the underway upgrade of the ring road from the Autostrad to Al Marioteya road as well as the expansion of the Autostrad bridge by 30 percent.

The total cost of the 106-kilometres long road stands at LE 7.3 billion.

The minister directed upholding coordination with the traffic police so as not to hinder the traffic movement and cause conjunction due to the expansion and upgrade work.

Meanwhile, Wazer checked on the underway expansion of Mounib bridge and issued directives to intensify activities in line with the highest standards.

The renovation of the Cairo Ring Road intents to widen the road, enhance services it provides, accommodate traffic jam and reduce trip time for drivers as will reduce the energy consumed by vehicles, the minister said.

The number of the ring road lanes will be doubled from four to eight in each direction with a view to catering to the rapid population growth, while on the Autostrad/ Munib sector the number of lanes will be up to seven lanes, the minister added.
