CAIRO – 21 May 2020: Egypt recorded, Thursday,774 new coronavirus cases and 16 deaths during the past 24 hours.

Health Ministry added in its daily briefing that the new detected cases raise the total number of confirmed cases since the beginning of the outbreak in Egypt to 15,003.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said that the death toll rose to 696.

As many as 223 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 4,217 so far, the spokesman said.




The number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and received negative results has reached 4,798, he added.

Earlier on Thursday, Megahed denied social media rumors claiming that Health Minister Hala Zayed was infected with the new coronavirus COVID-19 disease.

He told Youm7 on Thursday that such rumors are groundless, affirming that the minister is in good condition.

Unverified news circulated on social media platforms claiming that the minister self-isolated.

Minister of Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Atti announced he will self-isolate at home for two weeks after he held a meeting with the Daqahlia governor who tested positive to coronavirus.

"Minister Abdel Atti and all the other people who contacted Governor Ayman Hamza have undergone a coronavirus test," stated a spokesperson for Ministry of Irrigation Mohamed el-Sebaei.
