CAIRO - 24 June 2017: Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar condemned a purported terror attack on Grand Mosque in Mecca city.

In statements to MENA on Friday, the minister said any person who thinks of attacking one of the two Holy Mosques or Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, "is a total disregard for Islam and its rituals."

This heinous act reveals the real truth about these terrorist groups that betray their religion and homelands, the minister said.

He further pledged solidarity with the Saudi Kingdom to fight terrorism.

On Friday, security forces in Saudi Arabia foiled a terror plot targeting the Grand Mosque in Mecca.

The operation was planned by three terrorist groups, two based in Mecca and the third in Jeddah. The foiled attack targeted worshipers at the mosque
