CAIRO – 14 May 2020: Egyptian commuters will be able to take different means of public transport within the country via the same smart card, according to a project discussed Wednesday by Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazeer.

The project aims to link the three metro lines with the electric train, private buses and some public transport lines (1,600 buses set to enter the system), besides integrating railways and the monorail into the system, so that commuters can use all transport means with a unified ticket and the smart card.

The minister further discussed the plan set for the project management and operation, including different stages of preparation, launching, offering, implementation and operation.

The minister signaled the importance of the project for its expected big returns for the state, transport services operators and citizens, in upgrading the service provided by different means of transportation, and enhancing the competitive advantage of the transportation system.

The project aims to contribute to easing the citizens’ transport and reduce the need to queue outside ticket booths.
