CAIRO – 8 May 2020: Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the 112-year old Cairo University said he recovered from coronavirus and will now continue his convalescence at home.

In a Twitter post, Atef Shaker thanked the medical staff and administrators in the Al-Kasr Al-Ainy Specialized Hospital, which belongs to the Cairo University.

The whole building where the dean works, including the secretarial offices, clinics, bathrooms, stairs and the elevator were disinfected, Cairo University spokesman Alam El-Deen said late in April, adding that sterilization process will be carried out over two weeks.

All contacts were examined and isolated for 14 days, Azza Ezz El-Arab, the vice-dean of faculty said.

A week later, Alam El-Deen, said that the infection control committee sorted the persons who dealt with the dean and found that the vice-dean of the faculty also tested positive for the virus.

Daily report
Egypt has recently recorded 393 people who tested positive for the novel coronavirus, making the highest daily counts in Egypt so far, and 13 people died with the novel virus, the Health Ministry said on Thursday.

This brings the total number of reported cases and deaths to 7,981 and 482 respectively, the ministry said.

The test results of 2,378 people of the reported cases turned from positive to negative, including 1,887 people who fully recovered.

Also, 72 cases, all of them Egyptians, left hospital after they recovered, according to the instructions of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The ministry revealed that the total number of positive patients at the quarantine hospitals is 1,890, including 211 unstable cases and 41 critical cases.
