CAIRO – 30 April 2020: Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has mourned the Armed Forces martyrs who were killed and injured in North Sinai terrorist attack on Thursday.

“The terrorists have killed our heroes and sons in Bir al-Abd city, at North Sinai today. They are still trying to take away our country from us, but with God’s help and Egypt’s strong army we are capable of destroying their malicious hopes and treacherous souls” Sisi tweeted.

He added: “May God have mercy on our sons, and everyone who gave himself for our country, may God have mercy on everyone who sacrificed his blood for our country, in order to remain free with its flag always raised.”



Egypt’s Prime minster Moustafa Madnouli has also mourned the martyrs affirming all of the Egyptian’s deep appreciation for the efforts exerted by the armed forces to protect the country and keep it safe, stable and secured.

He added that "we will always remember our martyrs with pride, unlike terrorists who will always be labeled with shame."

One Egyptian officer, a non-commissioned officer and eight other army soldiers were announced dead as a result of an explosive device blast which targeted an armored vehicle affiliated with the army.

Egypt’s armed forces spokesperson, Tamer al-Refai said, Thursday that the blast took place in Bir al-Abd city, in North Sinai.

He added that the armed forces affirms the continuation of its battle against terrorists to preserve the state’s security and stability.

Egypt has been countering terrorism and extremism ideologies over the past years since the ouster of late Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi. Several operations have been taking place in Sinai against terrorists, as many Egyptian officers and soldiers have martyred in the battle.

Egypt’s army has also been playing a vital role during the critical timing of Coronavirus epidemic, as many streets and buildings have been sterilized, along with distributing free face masks to passengers and citizens in common places of gatherings advising them to use it in public places to avoid the emerging virus.
