CAIRO - 12 April 2020: As per the directions of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, the Armed Forces of Egypt started providing free face masks for public transportation commuters and citizens in the public squares nationwide.

"The Armed Forces have established five lines for manufacturing face masks to produce 100,000 masks a day in accordance with the international health measures," spokesperson of the Armed Forces Tamer el-Rifai said in a statement on Sunday.

"Distribution of the free face masks comes in light of the state’s efforts to combat the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)," he added.

During his inspection of the elements and equipment manufactured by the Egyptian Armed Forces to assist the civilian sector in combating COVID-19 on April 7, President Sisi said ,“It is okay to distribute masks for free,” and instructed the Egyptian Armed Forces to distribute masks for free.
