CAIRO 9 April 2020: President Abdel FatCAIRO 9 April 2020: President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi ratified the 2012 Doha Amendment to the Kyoto Protocol on climate change.

The ratification decree was published on Thursday in the official gazette Al-Waqa'i' al-Misriyya to come into force.

Global countries have signed the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, per which industrial countries legally bind to reduce their emission of CO2 via investing in low-carbon projects in developing countries.

Egypt has been affected by climate change as it faces water shortage, rising sea level, and seashore erosion. Egypt is a signatory to the 2016 Paris Climate Agreement aiming to keep global warming “well below” two degrees celsius.
