CAIRO – 6 April 2020: Teams from water and sanitation companies in three Egyptian governorates have sterilized all work sites of projects implemented in the northwestern city of New Alamein established in 2018, the housing minister said, as Egypt has reported 1173 coronavirus cases by Sunday.

Work sites, offices and workers’ buses, restaurants and places of residence were disinfected, Minister Assem al-Gazzar said, as part of precautionary measures to protect workers in the new city and in other projects nationwide.

Thermometer guns were also used to check workers and make sure they do not suffer the symptoms of the novel virus, Assem said, and antiseptics were provided in the sites.

An official at the New Administrative Capital, east of the capital Cairo earlier said disinfection and sterilization operations for various projects sites are implemented in the city.

Ten vehicles equipped with the necessary chemicals were sent to sterilize the streets, work sites, and offices in the new capital, said Mamdouh Raslan, the chairman of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater in Egypt (HCWW).

Also, the Egyptian Armed Forces sterilized Ramses Square, Ramses Railway Station, Al-Fath Mosque and its surroundings, and Al-Turgman bus station, the spokesperson announced Sunday.

That is in addition to Ramses, Ahmed Helmy, Claude Bey, Sabteya, Fagala, and Al- Gomhoureya streets. Sterilization works included buildings' fronts and sidewalks.

In March, the Chamber of Hotel Establishments coordinated with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and started the procedures of disinfection and sterilization of hotels and tourist establishments of all kinds.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health recorded Sunday 103 positive cases for novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and 7 deaths, also 6 patients were released from a quarantine hospital after recovering from Coronavirus, added the ministry’s statement.

The number of cases who tested negative for Coronavirus after being quarantined rose to 346, 274 of them are fully recovered, the ministry’s spokesperson Khaled Megahed.

The new positive cases are all Egyptian but one foreigner, some of the positive cases were recently returned from abroad, added Megahed.

The total of the cases who contracted the infectious virus became 1173 that include 247 recovered and 78 deaths, according to the Egyptian ministry of health.
