CAIRO, April 6 (MENA) - Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi held a meeting on Monday to follow up measures taken to support residents of Zaraib area in 15th of May city that was badly affected by a wave of adverse weather that gripped the country in March.

The Local Development Ministry said in a statement that the minister reviewed measures that have been implemented over the past days by the housing and social solidarity ministries to financially help those affected by the bad weather in Zaraib area.

The Social Solidarity Ministry disbursed 2,000 pounds for 382 families after the Housing Ministry's transfer of the money, the minister said.

He added that the same sum of money was also disbursed to 75 other families as per the list of names sent by Reverend Athanasius Rizk, the pastor of Pope Shenouda III Church in 15th of May city. The list was reviewed by the Social Solidarity Ministry to ensure that they deserved the financial aid.

On March 23, Shaarawi had talks with Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Minister Essam el-Gazzar, Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad, Cairo Governor Khalid Abdel Aal and Father Athanasius Rizq of Pope Shenouda Church in 15th of May city.

During the meeting, Shaarawi said the political leadership and the cabinet attached great importance to finding quick solutions to all families harmed by the heavy rains in the shanty Zaraib area.

This meeting falls within President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to develop Zaraib area and improve services provided for the area's residents, Shaarawi said.
