CAIRO – 27 March 2020:President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed latest updates and ongoing efforts to combat the emerging coronavirus (COVDI-19) with his Tunisian counterpart Kais Saied in a phone call.

In a Friday statement, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady stated that the two leaders agreed during the call to boost bilateral coordination on combating the pandemic, through exchanging experience and strengthening communication between the two countries' bodies concerned.

The two sides also probed means of fostering bilateral cooperation at the economic and trade levels, as well as increasing common investments, especially in light of the joint Egyptian-Tunisia higher committee, the spokesman added.

Concerning the Libyan issue, Sisi and Saied agreed on the necessity of stepping up bilateral coordination on that score, supporting the UN-led efforts and implementing the outcome of the Berlin Summit, to reach a political settlement to the crisis, which in turn could pave the way for regaining security and stability to the North African country.

On March 26, Sisi participated in an online mini-summit for the leaders of the African Union Council to discuss the ways of combating the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The meeting discussed the implications of Coronavirus pandemic for the African countries and the means of cooperation with international partners, Rady said in a statement.

The African leaders agreed to establish an African fund to provide the necessary financial resources needed to combat the virus in Africa, Radi added.
