CAIRO – 17 March 2020: Giza Governor Ahmed Rashid banned on Tuesday popular markets in seven neighborhoods of Giza to prevent the spread of coronavirus, including the Tuesday market,Wednesday market, Thursday market, and Friday market.

This decision comes in light of the precautionary measures taken by the government to confront the virus in order to preserve the safety of its citizens.

On Monday, March 16, the governorate also banned hookahs in cafes and cafeterias, and stressed that in case of violations, strict measures will be taken.

Rashid ordered implementing the decision with the utmost firmness in order to preserve the safety of citizens. The governor instructed to take all the necessary measures to limit holding meetings, seminars and conferences.

The governor of Giza also instructed to set posters and awareness-raising guidelines in public places, schools and universities against the virus, in addition to following-up sanitizing the schools during the period of suspension.

The decisions of the governor also included vacating the Student Hostelto carry out the necessary maintenance work in rooms, kitchens and bathrooms, as well as sanitize all the buildings.

Additionally, the governor ordered organizing daily campaigns to ensure the closure of all educational centers and receiving citizens' reports regarding the existence of any center that is still operating.
