CAIRO – 17 March 2020: All zoos across Egypt will be closed as of Wednesday for 15 days as a precautionary measure to combat the spread of Coronavirus, going the lines with protective steps announced by the government to ban gatherings at public spaces and gardens.

The Central Administration of Zoos announced that all precautionary measures will be taken in this regard to implement disinfection programs to prevent spread of Coronavirus inside the zoos.

The administration further added that there will be preventive measures to protect animals from weather fluctuations, especially at Giza Zoo, which is considered the largest in terms of size and numbers of animals hosted.

Maha Saber, the director of Giza Zoo, confirmed that technical units inside the zoo carried out disinfection activities at various places like spraying iron skewers and walls of cages hosting animals and birds. She also said that measures are taken in anticipation of any weather repercussions.
