Egypt replies to UNHRC on 372 human rights recommendations

CAIRO - 12 March 2020: Egypt replied to 372 recommendations by the United Nations Human Rights Council during its participation in Geneva-held 43rd Regular Session of the Human Rights Council (UNHRC) activities.

The Egyptian delegation also explained the government's future plan and its included mechanisms to follow up with the recommendations' implementation regarding the human rights situation in Egypt.

Last November Egypt participated in the Regular Session of the Human Rights Council, and received 372 recommendations from several governments and countries, including ratifying number of international treaties, giving more space and freedom to civil society organizations, create a safe environment for workers inside these organizations, and promote a culture of human rights.

Egypt's delegation expressed its firm conviction of UNHRC periodic review role in improving human rights conditions in the world.

Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) issued a report highlighting the Egyptian efforts to implement and follow up with the 372 recommendations given to the government last November.

"The Egyptian delegation reviewed its mechanism for implementing the recommendations, including announcing the establishment of a national committee to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations, which included all relevant government agencies, such as the National Council for Women, the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, and non-governmental organizations" the report stated.

Egypt also denied the existence of any acts of intimidation or terrorism to those cooperating with the Human Rights Council. The statement added that

Egypt defended the accusations related to any torture acts inside prisons.
Egypt emphasized that all prisons and places of detention are subject to judicial control in accordance with Egyptian legislation, and that the Prisons Law comes in line with the standard and rules for the treatment of prisoners and the basic principles of treatment.

Egypt emphasized that fighting corruption, promoting tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and empowering elderly, women, youth and persons with disabilities is important pillar of human rights.
