BEIJING, Feb 10 (MENA) - Mainland China has reported another rise in cases of the new virus after a sharp decline the previous day, while the number of deaths grew by 97 to 908, with at least two more outside the country, Global News reported Monday.

China’s health ministry said another 3,062 cases had been reported over the previous 24 hours, raising the Chinese mainland’s total to 40,171.

Monday’s rise was a turnaround from a significant reduction in new cases reported Sunday, less than 2,700, that briefly prompted optimism prevention methods such as a strict quarantines may be working.

China's National Health Commission said that 6,484 patients remained in severe condition, and 23,589 people were suspected of being infected with the virus, according to Xinhua.

A total of 3,281 people had been discharged from hospital after recovery.

By the end of Sunday, 36 confirmed cases including one death had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 10 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 18 in Taiwan.
