CAIRO, Jan 6 (MENA) - Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit strongly denounced an attack on a military academy in Al-Hadhba in southern the Libyan capital of Tripoli that left dozens killed and injured on Saturday, offering condolences to the families of the victims and wishing the injured speedy recovery.

The targeting of residential areas and civil and medical facilities and infrastructures is utterly rejected and condemned under any circumstances, said an official source with the Arab League's General Secretariat in a statement on Monday.

It is regrettable and saddening to see the continued occurrence of such actions that harm all real chances for having a political solution for the years-running conflict in the war-hit Arab country, he said, urging the warring Libyan parties to place the higher national interests above all considerations, refrain from further escalations and return to the negotiating table.

The official reiterated the pan-Arab body's full solidarity with the Libyan people in support of any deescalation measures and efforts to restore security and stability.
