WASHINGTON - 4 January 2019: US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held phone conversations with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Iraqi President Barham Saleh and Prime Minister of Iraq's Kurdistan government Masrour Barzani to discuss the developments following the US airstrike that killed head of the IRGC's Quds Force Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad.

Pompeo discussed with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, US President Donald Trump's recent decision on taking decisive defensive action to protect US personnel abroad by killing Soleimani, Spokesperson for State Department Morgan Ortagus.

During Pompeo's talks with the Iraqi president, they agreed on the importance of deescalation in the region with Popmeo asserting the US commitment to deescalation and keenness on guaranteeing independent and sovereign Iraq.

Reviewing the latest developments with the head of Iraq's Kurdistan government, Pompeo thanked Barzani for his partnership with Washington.
