Zayed also said that 166, 827 digital family records were also created as part of the new insurance system.

This came as part of the minister’s inspection tour to the registration process, and the medicines’ storehouses, to make sure the availability of different types of medicines.

The new system gives beneficiaries the freedom to choose their health service providers and reduces personal spending on medical care.

The pilot phase was launched in Port Said in July 2019, registering 506,000 citizens. The first phase of the system - set to be introduced gradually until 2030 - includes the governorates of Port Said, Ismailiyah, Suez, Luxor, Aswan, and South Sinai.

Luxor governorate announced it will implement the Universal Health insurance program, following Port Said, the first city to implement the new system, said a statement by the Ministry of Health on Monday.

In November, a total of 14,760 citizens were announced registered in the new comprehensive health insurance system in South Sinai governorate since October.
