CAIRO – 15 June 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed Egypt’s support of unity and stability in Iraq during a meeting with Iraqi Vice-President Iyad Allawi, expressing Egypt’s desire to stand by the country in facing its challenges.

During the meeting, Shoukry emphasized the importance of unifying efforts between the different sectarian groups of Iraq, denouncing conflicts, promoting national interest and foiling any foreign attempts to interfere with Iraq’s internal affairs.

Shoukry congratulated Allawi on achievements made by the Iraqi Army against IS terrorists, highlighting Egypt’s full support to Iraq’s effort in combating terrorism and extremism. Shoukry underlined the importance of unifying the international community in uprooting terrorism.

Allawi praised relations between Egypt and Iraq, expressing hope to continue enhancing bilateral cooperation on all levels.

The two officials touched on reactivating the Supreme Iraqi-Egyptian Joint Committee led by Prime Ministers of both countries.
