CAIRO – 6 November 2019: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi urged state institutions to continue developing the capabilities of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi said on Wednesday.

In connection with the development efforts in the axis of the Suez Canal and other related areas, Sisi also ordered starting the operation of Port Said tunnels, and officially inaugurating them later in November. The tunnels are set to facilitate the movement of trade and goods between East and West Suez Canal cities.

Five tunnels are planned to pass under the Suez Canal water in Southern Port Said, North Ismailiyah, North Suez.

Meeting with Mohamed Zaki, head of the authority, Sisi highlighted the necessity of state institutions’ concerted efforts to make the projects being implemented in the Authority operate with the highest efficiency, to ensure attracting investments and providing job opportunities.

Sisi, during his meeting with Zaki, followed up on the development strategy of the Authority during the coming period.

Zaki presented the plan to develop and support the capabilities and human resources of the Authority, as well as the financial situation with regard to investment projects, as well as efforts to increase the investment returns and good management of resources.
