CAIRO – 14 June 2017: An official source in the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy told Egypt Today on Wednesday that overhead power lines (500 kilovolts) spanning over a distance of 1,250 kilometers in Upper Egypt and Delta governorates are being finalized .
The project is executed by a Chinese company at a cost of LE 660 million ($36 million). Also, 150 transformers of a 40MWe capacity have been recently installed.
The Ministry contributed in developing the electricity transmission network in Egypt by building and expanding six substations at a capacity of 500 kilovolts. These substations are executed by Siemens at a cost of € 238 million ($267 million).
Siemens is also installing cables and lines at a capacity of 220 kilovolts, 26 transformers of 175 MWe capacity and 12 transformers at a capacity of 125 MWe, in addition to cables, lines, and cells of 66 MWe capacity.
