CAIRO - 30 October 2019: The Railway Authority decided to implement an urgent training program for all railway employees who deal with passengers, according to a statement issued by the authority on Oct. 29.

The program includes dealing with the legal manner appropriate for emergencies and dealing with various situations in a positive way with passengers.

The statement pointed out that conductors, heads of trains, ticket window employees, workers in various stations, workers in marketing and sales, customer service agents and train hosts will be included for this program.

These training courses will take place in specialized places such as the Wardan Institute of Railway and will be lectured by experts.

This comes in response to a train accident that happened on the Alexandria – Luxor line, where the conductor of the train demanded two passengers to pay the fare but they refused and jumped off the train, which led to the immediate death of one passenger, while the other got his foot amputated, according to a statement issued by the Railway Authority.

The conductor, Magdy Ibrahim Mohamed Hamam, was ordered to be imprisoned for four days pending investigations.

The Egyptian transport minister said the lives and rights of all Egyptian citizens matter and that investigations are underway and appropriate measures will be taken, the Railway Authority said in a statement on Oct. 28.

The minister said they had a policy in dealing with ticket evaders: "A police report is simply filed and then handed over to the police."
