CAIRO, Oct 29 (MENA) - Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Ezzeddin Abu Steit said Tuesday the African continent is facing major challenges to maintain food security and manage resources well.

Addressing a meeting of technical experts on the sidelines of the 10th Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the minister said the challenges the continent is facing include drought, sharp climate fluctuations, overpopulation, limited resources and scarcity of water.

Minister Abu Steit stressed the importance of promoting effortsto eliminate hunger, ensure food security, encourage investments, develop infrastructure, and establish projects while taking care of junior farmers to help them use advanced technology in the farming process.

He also called for drawing up integrated programs to prevent the spread of diseases that affect animals and plants and support agricultural research.

The minister also highlighted the importance of establishing logistic centers to help increase the volume of trade among African countries.
