CAIRO, Oct 27 (MENA) – Interior Minister Mahmod Tawfiq on Sunday reviewed the security measures taken in preparation for the 2019 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC), to kick off on Monday in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh.

The minister inspected security checkpoints and residences of visiting delegations.

He underlined the importance of activating measures for safeguarding vital facilities and intensifying security patrols.

The WRC, which will last until November 22, is held outside the headquarters of the Geneva-based International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the first time in 20 years under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The conference will be attended by over 3,500 participants from 140 countries, as well as more than 50 communication ministers and deputies from all over the world.

More than 50 international organizations and companies will also take part in the international event.

The WRC will tackle several issues of interest in the international arena, including digital broadcasting and wireless communication systems, satellite industry and fifth-generation technologies.
