CAIRO – 19 October 2019: Egypt strongly condemned the Afghanistan bombing that targeted a mosque during the Friday congregational prayer, killing 62 worshipers.

Egypt’s Mufti Shawqi Allam slammed the bombing, offering his condolences to the families of the victims.

“The targeting of mosques and places of worship around the world by terrorist groups proves the absurd and dark ideas of these misguided organizations that know nothing of the principles and foundations of religions,” Allam said.

The attack in eastern Nangarhar province also injured 36 people. The massacre has not been claimed thus far, but anti-government forces have deeply engaged in violence against officials and civilians this year.

The Mufti called on the international community to take all the actions needed to confront terrorism and attempts to spread extremism and sectarianism.
