CAIRO – 13 June 2017: The Ministry of Labor announced on Tuesday that the Egyptian Embassy in the Qatari capital Doha renewed work permits to Egyptian expats in Qatar, which is essentially the task of the Ministry of Interior in order to facilitate procedures for them, according to Al-Watan newspaper.

The Labor Counselor in Doha Hossam Kamal stated that it takes three days only to renew the permit for citizens above the age of 40 while citizens below that age need the approval of the Ministry of Interior.

For security reasons, Egypt requires its citizens below the age of 40 to get travel and work permits for 16 countries such as Qatar, Turkey, Libya, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Sudan, and others in fear they may join the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group through these countries.

Kamal added that renewal requirements are two passport photos, two passport copies, green card copy, two copies and the original of the old work permit, official statement by employer signed by the Qatari minister of foreign affairs, and vacation or exchange permit for employees in Egypt’s public sector working in Qatar.

As El-Watan newspaper reported the fees for university graduates is QAR 400 for two-year permit and QAR 214 for one-year permit, while the fees for non-university graduates are QAR 170 for one year and 310 for two years.

There have been concerns about Egyptian workers in Qatar after Egypt and other Arab countries cut links with Qatar, which states that they will be allowed to stay and work on its territories.
