CAIRO - 25 September 2019: Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday (Sept. 25) has discussed boosting relations with Egypt in a meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Egyptian presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said.

Sisi, during the meeting, congratulated Zelensky for taking over the post, expressing appreciation for the stable bilateral relations between the two countries, and the recent growth those relations has witnessed, especially in the economy and trade sectors.

For his part, the Ukrainian President praised the close ties between the two countries, expressing keenness to push forward the efforts to develop these relations in all its forms. He also highlighted the importance of continuous coordination and consultation on issues of mutual concern, especially in light of the Egyptian central role in the Middle East and Africa.

The meeting also touched on coordination on the situation of Egyptian students in Ukraine. The President, in this regard, called on the Ukrainian side to take the necessary measures to protect the interests of those students.

The two presidents also discussed the latest developments in the region and exchanged views on a number of regional issues including the peace process, and the situation in Syria, Libya and Yemen, Radi added.

Sisi has arrived in New York on Saturday morning, and has held meeting with a number of presidents and leaders, including a tripartite meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah II and Iraqi President Barham Salih, where they discussed the Palestinian cause.

The Egyptian president also met with his US counterpart, where President Donald Trump said the relationship with Egypt is “better than ever before” in terms of trade and business. Trump also said he would discuss Libya with Sisi.

Sisi delivered a speech at the Health Care session of UNGA, where he emphasized the highly successful anti-Hepatitis C campaign in Egypt.
