United Nations Special Envoy for Libya Ghassan Salamé - FILE

CAIRO- 2 September 2019: Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit had talks in Cairo on Monday with United Nations Special Envoy for Libya Ghassan Salamé on the latest political and security conditions in Libya.

During the meeting, Salamé underlined that the AL should be part of the political settlement of the Libyan crisis, stressing the importance of restoring security and stability to the conflict-hit Arab state.

The UN envoy is currently visiting Egypt within the framework of consultations to reach a political solution to the Libyan stalemate.

He seeks regional and international consensus to support the political process in the Arab-African country.
