CAIRO - 22 August 2019: Abu Bakr al-Seddiq Amer was sworn in as new head of the State Lawsuits Authority, in the presence of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.

Amer, who served as deputy head of the independent judicial authority, has succeeded legal expert Hussein Abdo Khalil who reached retirement age.

Sisi wished Amer success in his duties, affirming the significance of establishing the state of law based on justice and equality.

He also highlighted the importance of empowering citizens by guaranteeing them their rights and freedom and informing them of their responsibilities, according to the constitution.

President Sisi also awarded the retired head the first-class Order of the Republic, expressing sincere appreciation for his efforts and dedication to upholding justice and applying the law, presidential spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.

The State Lawsuits Authority is the oldest independent judicial body in Egypt, based on the protection of the rights and public money, according to its official website.

The authority is entrusted with the settlement of disputes, in which the State is a party, technical supervision of the legal affairs departments of the State administrative apparatus, and the preparation and drafting of State contracts.
