CAIRO - 17 August 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi appointed on Saturday Vice Admiral Osama Rabie as chairman of the Suez Canal Authority to succeed Vice Admiral Mohab Mamish.

Rabie was born in 1955 and graduated from the Egyptian Naval Academy in 1977. He came up through the ranks to become commander of the Egyptian Navy in April 2015 before he was appointed vice-chairman of the Suez Canal Authority in December 2016.

The key positions Rabie held throughout his career are minesweeper commander, chief of staff of the Mine Action Brigade, and commander of the Mine Action Brigade. The vice admiral received the Long-Service and Idol Medal and the Second-Class Medal of Military Duty.
