CAIRO - 8 August 2019: The Head of House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee affirmed the importance of boosting joint anti-terrorism efforts with the US, in light of profound strategic relations binding the two countries.

Lawmaker Karim Darwish made the remarks during his meeting with US Coordinator for Counter-terrorism Ambassador Nathan A. Sales.

The meeting tackled Egypt-US cooperation against terrorism, alongside coordinating and exchanging views in this regard, Darwish said in statements on Thursday.

Egypt has adopted a multi-dimension comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism, the lawmaker added, pointing out to the achievements it realized in fighting terrorism at the military and security levels.

Darwish shed light on the role played by Egypt's religious institutions in combating extremist ideologies.

Egypt's counter terrorism strategy is mainly based on countering terrorism through encouraging development, creating job opportunities, along with promoting economic and social rights of millions of Syrian refugees living in the country, he added.

Egypt has been spearheading efforts meant to reach settlement to regional crises and issues with the aim of realizing stability and security, Darwish noted.
