CAIRO - 7 August 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Egyptian Naval Forces and Hutchison Ports to establish a container handling a terminal in Abu Qir Port.

This came during Sisi's meeting with Commander of the Naval Forces Ahmed Khaled and Group Managing Director of Hutchison Ports Holdings Ltd. Eric Ip as well as the group CEO, according to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Sisi asserted the need to complete this vital project on time and in accordance with the highest international standards, and hailed the group's professional reputation, the statement reported.

For his part, the group's CEO highlighted the multiple investment opportunities available in the Egyptian port, noting that the company will provide training programs to more than 1,500 Egyptian engineers and workers, enabling them to handle any tasks or jobs necessary for the operation of the terminal.

By the completion of all the project's phases, the terminal is expected to handle 1 million containers on an annual basis, he added.
