CAIRO – 5 August 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi expressed his condolences to the Egyptians, and especially the families of the victims of the explosion of Cairo-University affiliated National Cancer Institute that killed 20 people.

In a Monday tweet, Sisi described the incident as “coward and terrorist”. He also wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Sisi affirmed that the Egyptian administration is determined to confront and fight terrorism by all means, in order to eliminate it completely.

A total of 20 people were killed and 48 were injured after a wrong-way driving car crashed into three other vehicles, causing a huge explosion outside the Cairo-University affiliated National Cancer Institute in Giza, said a Health Ministry statement.

Egypt’s Ministry of Interior revealed in a statement that one of the cars involved in the tragic accident was carrying explosives.

The statement added that Hasm terrorist group affiliated with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group is behind the incident, as they were preparing the car to take part in another terrorist attack later. The statement didn’t reveal further details regarding the terrorist attack Hasm was planning to do.
