CAIRO – 11 June 2017: The third phase of drilling works of the third underground metro line begins in 2018, the Head of the Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels Tarek Gamal el-Din announced on Sunday.

The third line stretches on a 17.7 km distance from Attaba till Boulaq al-Dakrour passing through 15 stations.

The French construction company Vinci executing construction works and drilling had started working on that phase in August 2016. The underground digger will start from Attaba through Maspero, Embaba, and Boulaq al-Dakrour, which are traditional neighborhoods located in greater Cairo.

Gamal el-Din clarified that digging procedures will begin after building both stations of Gamal Abdel Nasser and Maspero following the expulsion of squatters from the designated land.

The authority signed on Saturday a contract with the French multinational security company Thalice to manufacture ticket printing machines for that phase of the project. That would be the last machine stock requested as five others have been assigned to different companies
