Al-Azhar ready for training Uzbek imams, says official

CAIRO, July 1 (MENA) - Acting under-secretary of Al-Azhar Saleh Abbas said Al-Azhar is ready for offering support to Uzbekistan in the field of training imams to deal with the contemporary issues, like extremism and terrorism.

Saleh's remarks came on Monday during a meeting with a delegation of the Uzbek Committee on Religious Affairs of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The Uzbek group appreciated Al-Azhar's efforts in confronting extremism and expressed keenness on establishing strong ties with the Islamic institution and benefiting from the Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism.
