CAIRO, June 9 (MENA) - The legislative committee of the House of Representatives has approved amendments to the penal code, particularly articles concerned with failure to pay alimony or child support.

Financially capable husbands or fathers who refuse to pay alimony or child support for three successive months should, under the amended articles, be sentenced to not more than one year in prison and should be fined 500 pounds, or any of the two penalties.

They should first receive warnings before they are punished.

Lawsuits should only be filed by wives or persons directly concerned.
