CAIRO – 6 June 2019: The AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) suspended the Sudan’s participation in the AU’s activities over the Sudanese deterring political situation, the PSC said in a statement on Thursday.




The decision of suspension was announced after holding the 854th meeting of the Peace and Security Council on the situation in Sudan.

The suspension will remain until “effective establishment” of a Civilian-led Transitional Authority, the council said, adding that formation of a civilian regime is “as the only way to allow the Sudan to exit from the current crisis.”

Since June 3, the situation in Sudan was escalated when dozens of protesters were killed during violently-dispersed sit-in by security forces outside the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense.

Egypt extended condolences to the families of the martyrs, wishing the wounded a speedy recovery, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement, adding that Egypt reaffirms its full support for Sudan in this critical period to achieve a better future for the Sudanese people based on stability, development.

EgyptAir decided to suspend its current flights scheduled for Sudanese capital, Khartoum over latest developments, the aviation company announced in a statement on June 3.

Following the ouster of former President Omar al-Bashir on April 11, 2019, the interim military council announced that its transitional ruling period will last for two years until electing a new democratic government.
