‘Moderation values in Quran, Sunnah’ kicks off in Mecca

CAIRO – 27 May 2019: Muhammad bin Abdul Karim bin Abdel Aziz Al-Issa, the secretary-general of the Muslim World League, praised the Saudi Arabian sponsorship of the Muslim League conference titled “Moderation Values in the Quran and Sunnah”.

Headed by Saudi King Salman bin Abdel Aziz, the conference will kick off on Monday and comes as part of the great support to the "joint Islamic work between countries", according to Issa.

He added that the conference will be tackling the moderation Islamic values which refuse violence, hatred and discrimination.

The conference will also discuss the Islamic heritage and Fiqh (Islamic legal rulings) along with ways to enhance moderation in Muslim societies. By the end of the conference, participants will sign the historical Mecca Document.

The conference that will run from Monday to Thursday will be attended by more than 80 scholars and public figures such as President of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.

The conference will be held under the auspices of Saudi King Salman bin Abdel Aziz. Emir of Mecca, Khaled Faisal, will inaugurate the first session on behalf of King Salman. The conference comprises 16 events and sessions to be held over 20 hours.

Kadyrov, Egyptian Mufti Shawki Allam, Lebanese Mufti Abdellatif Darian, and Emirati Mufti Sheikh Abdullah bin Beeh will all give speeches in the opening session.

From Egypt, Minister of Religious Endowments Mohammed Mokhtar Gomaa will participate in the sessions that discuss means of spreading moderation recently adopted by the Saudi kingdom.

The second session will discuss the moderation of Prophet Mohammed, while the third session will cover the topic of moderation between modernism and originality.
