CAIRO - 24 May 2019: Theresa May announced on Friday that she will resign as a UK Prime Minister and Conservative leader on June 7.

“Today I am announcing to resign as the leader of the Conservative leader and Unionist Party on Friday, the 7th of June, so that a successor can be chosen,” she said adding that she has informed Queen Elizabeth II about her intention and will serve as a prime minister until choosing the successor.

She announced her resignation in a statement in Downing Street.

May’s resignation came following her last chance to get the Conservatives’ approval of her new Brexit plan she made with the European Union. Andrea Leadsom, head of the Commons, quit the cabinet, protesting the government’s failure to deliver the Brexit, BBC reported.
