CAIRO – 10 May 2019: Egypt strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted Al-Jamila market in Sadr city, in Baghdad, killing eight people and injuring 10 others, said the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Friday.

A suicide bomber blew himself up in the market to kill Shiite Muslims on Thursday, said the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, which claimed its responsibility for the attack.

Egypt expressed its condolences to the families of victims, extending wishes for speedy recovery for the injured people, the statement added, saying “The Egyptian government and its people stand with Iraq’s government and people in order to maintain its security and stability.”

The Egyptian government has renewed its call for an action to uproot all forms of terrorism and extremism by drying up the sources of financing and by preventing the safe haven of its elements, the statement said.
