CAIRO - 9 May 2019: Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki hailed efforts exerted by the Armed Forces for securing the southern gate of Egypt and preventing any infiltration or smuggling operation to help the government proceed with its development plans.

Zaki's remarks came at a meeting with personnel of the southern military zone with whom he shared a Ramadan Iftar meal.

The get-together fell within the framework of the minister's continued meetings with the Armed Forces servicemen to raise their morale and encourage them to hone their fighting skills.

The meeting started with observing a minute of silence in remembrance of Armed Forces martyrs who sacrificed their lives while defending the homeland.

Meanwhile, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Mohamed Farid met with the second field army personnel and had Iftar with them.

Farid conveyed to them the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the defense minister, hailing their success in cooperating with the police to uproot terrorism in northern Sinai in order to realize security and stability in Egypt.

He stressed that the Armed Forces will continue fighting terrorists in parallel with carrying out the ambitious national plans for achieving an all-out development in the Sinai peninsula
