CAIRO, May 8 (MENA) - Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam on Wednesday strongly condemned the suicide blast outside the Data Darbar shrine in Lahore that left at least eight people dead and 25 injured.

Allam stressed that Islamic Sharia categorically rejects all forms of terrorist attacks and intimidation of safe and innocent people.

He urged to have effective international cooperation to fight all forms of terrorism and eradicate the roots of terrorism worldwide.

Allam offered his deepest condolences to Pakistan’s president, government and people, wishing the injured victims speedy recovery.

According to initial police reports, the blast earlier today targeted a van carrying the Elite Force of Punjab Police.

Inspector-General Punjab Police Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan confirmed the attack targeted the police force, adding that five police officials died in the blast.

A security guard and civilians were also among the dead.
