CAIRO – 7 June 2017: A former Palestinian advisor has questioned whether Qatar should host the 2020 FIFA World Cup.

Mohammed Rashid, financial advisor to the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, called for an official and popular campaign to cancel Qatar’s right to host the 2020 World Cup due to its support for terrorism.

There should be a “serious step from the unions in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain,” Rashid tweeded Tuesday evening.

The 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar between November 21 and December 18, 2022.

Nine states, including Egypt, broke diplomatic ties with Qatar earlier this week over the tiny Gulf state’s “continuous support for terrorism.”
