CAIRO - 1 April 2019: Egypt’s Cabinet denied on Monday rumors propagated by several media reports that the government will be forcing employees into early retirement to reduce the state’s expenditure.

In an official statement, the Cabinet’s media center affirmed that it has contacted the Central Agency for Organization and Administration which categorically refuted the reports, terming the news as mere rumors.

The agency reiterated that article 70 of the civil service law stipulates that early retirement is optional for employees, urging the media to be accurate in reporting news.

The Cabinet also dismissed reports about changing the rate of the US dollar to LE 18 in the draft budget of the 2019/2020 fiscal year. The ministry called on all media outlets and citizens to seek accuracy and contact the bodies concerned to avoid spreading false information
