BAGHDAD, March 23 (MENA) – The US call to recognize the Syrian Golan Heights as an Israeli territory contradicts the international law, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

Iraq supports the international legitimacy resolutions issues by UNSC, stating that the Israeli occupation to the Syrian territories must end, the ministry’s spokesman Ahmed Alsahaf said.

Passing long times on the occupation could never give legitimacy for sovereignty, the statement added.

US President Donald Trump has overturned decades of US policy by saying it is time to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the occupied Golan Heights, which it captured from Syria in 1967.
